We recently made the trek north for a dear friends wedding and it was nothing short of dreamy. This trip was particularly special since the location of the weekend’s events centered around the town where my husband, Josh, spent some of his favorite childhood years. My father-in-law attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary school there when Josh was young. They didn’t move to Texas until he was 8. Since I met him, he’s always talked about leaving this place so we can raise our own children in an environment more focused on nature. Not until I actually saw the place they called home did I fully understand (it’s the red barn pictured across the marsh near the ocean).

It all makes sense now. The reason my husband is happiest in the woods. The reason he loves to fish, explore, and why he has such an abundant knowledge of the natural world. I had planned on taking a lot more images of the places we went, where we ate and shopped, but all I could focus on were the houses! You may or may not remember that little house we used to live in. A cute cedar shake cottage that I had major remodeling plans for. Don’t get me wrong, I love our current home, but if I could do it all over again, a shake shack is exactly what I’d build.
