Runningwater Dry Goods is a women’s boutique with a curated selection of clothing, accessories, gifts, and more! It’s the go-to place to refresh your wardrobe, or find something special for someone else!

We sat down with Emily Falkenberg, the co-owner of Runningwater Dry Goods, and asked her some questions about her local boutique located in Canyon, TX. To read more, follow along with the interview below:

What influenced you to start your business in the Texas Panhandle?

Emily: Kerri Falkenberg, my mother, grew up in the Central Texas area, and she headed out west to Texas Tech University for college where she met and married Randy Falkenberg, a Panhandle farmer and rancher. They settled in Plainview, Texas, and raised two children: Brent and myself. For 40+ years Kerri worked in retail at various small businesses. From high-end ready-to-wear women’s fashion to helping found a women’s boutique in Plainview, she knows all sides of the retail industry. She knows how to style any body to its best and most flattering fit. For years, we joked and dreamt about starting our own small business to give women of all ages and styles a place to find something for the many occasions of life. I spent nearly five years working as a television news reporter for the CBS affiliate KLBK in Lubbock, Texas before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado to work in communications for the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Artistic Swimming organization. But the Panhandle has always remained home. After a few years, the long and almost forgotten dream came back to life. A storefront on the historic square in Canyon, Texas had recently opened up, and ironically, that was the exact location we had always talked about having our own store at. It was too much of ‘God thing’ to ignore. The doors of Runningwater Dry Goods first opened on September 10, 2022, the grand opening was held on October 1st. It’s been nearly two years and we have had the best time being a part of the Canyon community and helping women feel their best.

What makes Runningwater Dry Goods a one-of-a-kind shopping experience?

Emily: We are a one-stop kind of shop. Anyone from young teens to mature women can walk in our door and find something within their budget and style. Women are multidimensional and come in all shapes and styles, so we hope to reflect the diversity, beauty, and uniqueness of panhandle women. From timeless and classic styles to bright colors, bold patterns, and trending designs, you can find it all at Runningwater Dry Goods. We focus heavily on customer service and the customer experience. We believe that shopping should be a fun and enjoyable experience. We aim to help women not only elevate their personal style but feel more confident in themselves.

Can you tell us your favorite part about being a business owner in the small town of Canyon, TX?

Emily: We absolutely love connecting with the community of Canyon and the surrounding areas. The people are so kind, warm, and genuine. It is truly the small town of Hallmark movies and TV shows. The community has so many events and local happenings, and we love getting to participate and support the many other small businesses.

Along with being a business owner in Canyon, you created a second location in Amarillo here at From 6th Collective. Can you tell us your favorite part about moving out to the Collective?

Emily: It is very special to see just how much thought and care every vendor puts into their spaces and being able to meet and support them. I also love being able to reach an entirely new audience of people who might not always make it to Canyon.

What are you up to when you’re not busy running your two store locations? Any hobbies or interests?

Emily: We are a farming and ranching family which pretty much keeps everyone on their toes at all times. I also have two dogs which you can sometimes find at the store in Canyon. I love going for long walks with the dogs and sitting down with a good book on my Kindle.

Is there anything you have planned for the rest of 2024 that you are looking forward to?

Emily: There is never a shortage of events going on in Canyon. Starting on June 15th the Canyon Farmers Market kicks off a new season on the square every Saturday through September 28th. We are also looking forward to WTAMU Gamedays this fall and then all of the fun events through the holiday season. We participate in the Canyon Jingle N’ Mingle Style Show as well as the Christmas Roundup at the Civic Center. We will also start our Summer sale sometime around July!
